Important Information about PDF Documents in Digital Collections

Recent compatibility issues have arisen with certain PDF types, leading to problems when opening, downloading or printing documents. While our application vendor irons out these issues, we will offer workarounds that will help you access these files. If you encounter a problem while viewing or working with a PDF, click on the "PDF Help" button in the gray bar near the top of the webpage, where you will find advice on getting around the known bugs affecting PDF performance.

Special hint for researchers using the State Publications collection...

If you are searching our digital collections for titles that come in multiple volumes or issues, we recommend using CONSULS, the State Library catalog, rather than the Search box on our digital collections pages. This is because the Results display from CONSULS will show more complete information about each volume. Additionally, CONSULS may have links to additional online resources that are not in our digital collections.

To use CONSULS, look up the item in our catalog using "Keyword," "Title," "Author," "Subject," or "Advanced" options. If the item is available online, there will be an "Available online:" link provided. Clicking the link will take you to the item, or if it is in multiple volumes, a list of available items.

Remember, however, that you are searching the catalog, and not the items themselves. If you wish to browse through all items that contain a specific phrase or set of keywords, use digital collections Search, but when you are looking for a specific volume or title, use CONSULS.

NEW AND NOTEWORTHY:

The Connecticut State Library received an award from the National Endowment for the Humanities for a two-year National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) grant to digitize historically significant Connecticut newspapers. The grant runs from September 1, 2013 - August 31, 2015. The grant allows the Connecticut State Library to add 100,000 pages, digitized from microfilm of newspapers published in Connecticut between 1836-1922. These digitized images will be included in the Library of Congress' Chronicling America newspaper project. Go to the Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project
