A miscellany of manuscripts and documents published by the Connecticut State Library containing vital records indexes.
About the collection
In addition to the better known indexes at the State Library, (Barbour Collection index, Bible and Family Records index, Connecticut Census index, 1790-1850, Newspaper Marriage and Death indexes, 1755-1870, Hale Collection of Cemetery Inscriptions, Church Records index, and Probate Estate Record index), the State Library possesses a number of smaller vital records indexes. These are transcriptions produced by the library from original manuscripts that were often compiled by individuals in their capacities as justices of the peace, ministers or church sextons, found in diaries, day books, or copied from newspapers. The casual nature of their origins and restricted scope of their coverage has left them an underutilized resource, but one with information not easily found elsewhere.
Discover this resource and search the indexes using the browse and search tools to the right, or the Advanced Search function (the link is above).
