History
Though
Isaac
Young
of
Stratford
bought
here in
1758
, and
sold
his
5
acres
with a
new
dwelling
, in
1760
, to
Gabriel
Ludlow
of
New
York
, this
can
not be the
dwelling
. In
1767
,
Ludlow
sold
to
Cable
who
ran
a
tavern
.
Old
pictures
show
this as a
salt-box
house
with a
five-window
front
. The
present
house
must
have been
built
on this
site
, and
perhaps
on the
foundation
of the
old
salt-box
. On
April
11
,
1808
, the
Gable
Estate
sold
to
Thomas
Brothwell
(Vol
.
32
of
195)
, and
it
must
be
supposed
from the
architecture
of the
present
building
that this
is
the
house
he
built
.
January

,
1829
he
sold
