. The

are
clapboarded
,
painted
red

.
Considerable
new
timber
was of
necessity
used
in the
roof
, but a
number
of
original
rafters
have been
retained
.
Evidence
that the
house
is
an "

"
is
found
in the
traces
of
old
clapboarding
on the
planking
of the
original
rear
wall
.

has a
new
six-paneled

.

;
posts
are
flared
.
Southwest
room
-
(now
dining
room)
has a
fireplace
smaller
than that in the
southeast
room
.
Fireplace
wall
fully
covered
with
raised

;

each
side
of
fireplace
.

.
Southeast

(second

-
is
paneled
with
featheredge
boards
.
Originally
had
several
simple
pine
cupboards
some
of
which
were
reset
-
others
set
up
in the
attic
.
Ceilings
about
7
1/2
'. The
house
contains
a
fine
collection
of
early
American
furniture
.
History
The
earliest
reference
to this
house
is
in the will of
Ebenezer
Scranton
who
died
in
1729
or
1720
. He was a
very
old
man
at the
time
of his
death
, and
assuming
he had
owned
the
house
thirty
years
,
it
would
place
the
date
it
was
built
c.1690
. The
wealth
of
paneling
seems
,
however
, to be of a
later
date
, and this
fine
interior
finish
may
quite
possibly
have been
added
from
time
to
time
over
a
period
of
many
years
.
