Exterior
It
is
an
exceptionally
good
example
of an
early
nineteenth
century
house
with
fine
proportions
and and
delicate
detail
. The
cornice
is
formed
with
delicate
mouldings
,
brackets
and
dentils
. The
windows
are
capped
with
small
moulded
heads
and
brackets
.
Window
heads
are
similar
in
shape
to the
main
cornice
, but are
smaller
and have
no
dentils
. The
walls
are
clapboarded
and the
corners
are
finished
with
wood
quoins
. The
porch
is
a
very
handsome
feature
, with an
open
pediment
supported
on
two
free-standing
Doric
columns
,
plain
without
fluting
.
Pilasters
flanking
the
door
are
fluted
. The
elliptical
transom
over
the
door
has a
leaded
fan
. The
house
was
moved
from its
original
site
on the
east
side
of
Dixwell
Avenue
about
one-half
mile
south
of
present
location
.
Interior
Remodeled
for
use
as
tavern
.
Most
of the
old
woodwork
,
mantels
,
fireplaces
, etc. has been
retained
. The
entrance
hall
has a
handsome
circular
staircase
, with
mahogany
rail
,
balusters
and
spiral
newel
. There are
two
delicately
moulded
mantels
in the
first
story
and
two
simple
one
in the
second
. The
southeast
room
has a
kitchen
fireplace
and
mantel
and
wainscot
of
beaded
boards
.

southwest
room
.
