Steeple
-
steeple
is
made
up
of
four
tiers
and
spire
.
First
tier
ascends
only
to
ridge
pole
,
is
closed
with
clapboards
and has
quoins
(short
and
long)
at the
edges
. The
second
tier
commences
at the
ridge
pole
,
is
as
high
as the
first
,
slightly
smaller
in
width
and
length
(tiers
are
square)
, and
is
clapboarded
and
quoined
.
Very
slight
cornice
on
first
tier
,
six
inch
cornice
on
end
tier
which
is
topped
with
open
board
railing
with
high
posts
. The
third
tier
is
the
combined
height
of the
lower
two
,
is
much
shorter
and
narrower
, has
shuttered
,
rectangular
openings
in the
sides
,
each
opening
aided
with
plain
,
flat
,
Ionic
pilasters
(two
each
side
,
four
altogether
on
each
face
of
tier.)
Pilasters
support
high
plain
frieze
topped
with
six
inch
cornice
supported
by
small
modillion
brackets
. The
fourth
tier
is
smaller
in
all
dimensions
, has
similar
pilasters
supporting
high
frieze
topped
with
dentils
and
four
inch
cornice
;
sides
of
tier
(each
side
of
which
has
four
pilasters)
is
closed
with
vertical
flush
boarding
. The
spire
is
about
the
combined
height
of
three
lower
tiers
,
is
four-sided
,
covered
with
narrow
,
horizontal
flush
boards
and
surmounted
with
wooden
ball
, and
arrow
vane
at
top
.
Doorway
Three
recessed
,
raised
panel
doors
,
4-pane
transoms
,
very
wide
frame
,
perfectly
plain
,
save
for
slight
cornice
projections
one-half
foot
over
plain
frieze
;
whole
frame
protrudes
the
thickness
of
planks
about
one-and-a-half
inches
.
Interior
The
interior
is
considerably
altered
with
new
pews
,
new
pulpit
,
dais
and
altar
effect
. The
altar
effect
is
simple
arched
moulding
, with
sunken
panel
keyblock
at
top
,
applied
to
plain
backing
and
supported
on
slender
pilasters
;
entire
arrangement
sided
with
sunken-panel-pilasters
supporting
high
frieze
reeded
at the
bottom
and
topped
with
cornice
supported
by
block
brackets
.
Gallery
runs
around
three
sides
of the
church
and
is
raised
with
solid
balustrade
with
applied
turned
spincles
[sic]
. In
gallery
are
old
,
raised
panel
pews
(blocks
paneled
both
sides)
. At
rear
of
gallery
,
three
benches
are on
three
tiers
, and
highest
has
raised
paneling
under
seat
(from
seat
to
floor)
.
Stair
railing
boxed
in on
2nd
floor
, with
raised
panels
.
