Two
arched
windows
on
each
side
of the
doorway
within
portico
.
Stone
slab
over
each
lower
window
with
key
block
.
Brackets
are
found
around
the
inside
of the
roof
of the
portico
. A
balcony
, or
two
second-story
portico
, with
ten
pillars
supporting
a
pediment
,
is
over
the
rear
portico
. There are
three
arched
windows
in the
wall
back
of the
portico
. The
middle
one
is
larger
than the
other
two
. The
balustrade
around
the
edge
of the
roof
was
added
in
1815
. A
fan
window
on
each
of the
four
sides
at the
foot
of the
tower
or
cupola
.
Two
Ionic
pilasters
are at
each
corner
. There
is
bracket
trim
above
. A
figure
of
Justice
,
holding
scales
stands
on
top
of the
gilded
dome
. The
cupola
or
tower
was
added
in
1827
. The
ball
was
set
in
place
in
1830
, and the
clock
which
has a
face
on
all
four
sides
, was
installed
in
1848
. The
roof
has
original
pegged
timbers
. The
original
front
is
to the
east
.
Doorway
The
east
and
west
entrance
doors
are
double
and have
three
panels
over
the
west
entrance
,
carved
with
State
Seal
and
Motto
. The
east
entrance
has
portico
similar
to
west
.
Dentil
trim
over
both
front
and
rear
doors
. A
fan
window
is
inset
over
rear
doorway
, the
top
of
arch
in
front
of
it
being
paneled
.
Interior
North
room
-
extends
full
width
of
building
on
second
floor
, has
fluted
Ionic
pilasters
in the
corners
and
between
each
two
windows
. The
balcony
has a
paneled
balustrade
over
the
doorway
to the
central
hall
,
supported
by
fluted
Ionic
columns
.
Brackets
and
carved
trim
is
found
on the
balcony
and
around
walls
above
windows
;
half
windows
above
others
,
near
ceiling
. The
large
windows
have
folding
shutters
.
Two
fireplaces
(brownstones
sides
and
top)
in this
room
are on the
hall
side
.
South
room
-
also
full
width
, has
fluted
composite
columns
(a
combination
of
Ionic
and
Corinthian)
at the
sides
and in the
corners
.
Brackets
,
dentil
, and
rope
trim
are
around
the
walls
and at the
top
of
columns
,
above
which
is
a
small
balustrade
.
Two
fireplaces
on
hall
side
of
room
with a
column
on
each
side
,
supporting
a
pediment
which
has the
same
trim
as the
walls
. This
room
also has
half
windows
near
ceiling
.
Second
floor
hall
,
decorated
with
modillion
brackets
, has a
Palladian
window
in the
west
end
wall
,
looking
into a
room
over
the
portico
. This
window
is
above
the
stair
landing
.
Key
block
in the
arched
section
.
Fluted
pilasters
on the
doorways
leading
into
north
and
south
rooms
.
Stairs
rise
west
from
each
side
of the
lower
hall
,
meeting
at the
landing
half
way
up
, and
turning
,
continue
east
in
one
staircase
.
Good
paneling
under
the
stairs
.
Lower
North
Room
(first
story)
has
fluted
columns
with
paneled
bases
supporting
ceiling
and
fluted
pilasters
at
sides
. A
balcony
is
on the
hall
side
, as
upstsirs
, but
less
ornamented
.
South
Room
(first
story)
is
divided
into
smaller
rooms
.
