Exterior
The
exterior
of this
house
shows
three
periods
of
development
. From the
records
the
first
structure
built
between
1700
and
1720
was a
two-story
four
room
peaked
roof
house
with
central
chimney
.
Around
the
Revolutionary
War
, the
house
was
made
larger
, with
more
elaborate
features
.
Around
1800
the
present
stone
cap
was
added
at the
chimney
, also
ells
at the
rear
of the
house
. The
window
casements
date
back
to the
Revolutionary
period
. A
curious
piazza
is
on the
south
side
, with
two
story
square
columns
about
1800
.
Doorway
The
doors
date
back
to the
Revolutionary
period
. The
two
doors
have
fine
wrought
iron
latches
and
knockers
; at the
front
door
are
wide
sidelights
above
which
is
a
gabled
roofed
porch
;
both
features
are of a
later
period
.
Interior
The
interior
of this
old
house
is
beautifully
paneled
in
all
front
rooms
. At the
fireplace
walls
, the
wainscoting
also
is
paneled
.
Originally
the
interior
was
finished
in
whitewash
.
About
the
period
of the
Revolutionary
War
, the
walls
were
paneled
and
ceilings
plastered
and the
house
made
larger
. The
front
rooms
still
retain
thier
summer
beams
,
corner
posts
, and
girts
project
into the
room
.
