History
This
church
is
said
to have been
designed
by
David
Hoadley
. The
church
in
Cheshire
,
three
years
later
,
is
almost
identical
, but the
sash
window
in the
tower
is
brought
down
into the
projecting
front
pediment
(12/12
small)
and
all
the
stages
of the
tower
are
shorter
. In
1828
,
Southington
Church
was
built
by
Levi
Newell
along
the
same
lines
, and in
1829
,
Litchfield
. The
design
thus
appears
in
four
Connecticut
churches
, and
may
be
called
the
dominant
type
of the
early
19th
century
.
