The
house
is
similar
in
design
to a
Greek
Temple
, with a
portico
at the
front
with
free
standing
columns
of the
Doric
order
. The
roof
is
flat
. The
cornice
has
good
Doric
proportions
. The
window
casements
are
capped
with a
simple
flat
cornice
with
plain
sides
. A
brick
ell
is
at the
rear
and
is
probably
original
in as
much
as the
four
Coit
houses
have the
same
type
ell
.
Doorway
The
doorway
has
grooved
or
fluted
pilasters
at the
sides
with
elaborate
flame
designed
in the
corner
panels
.
Side
and
top
lights
are of
stained
glass
. The
front
is
faced
with
narrow
horizontal
weatherboarding
.
Interior
The
interior
of this
so
called
"
1st
Coit
House
"
is
quite
elaborate
. There
is
a
winding
stairway
in the
front
hall
;
bannisters
are
turned
;
stairway
turns
gracefully
at the
bottom
. The
parlor
and
living
room
connect
on the
south
side
.
Marble
fireplace
mantels
.
High
ceilings
with
plain
classical
mouldings
.
Heavy
paneled
doors
,
nineteenth
century
in
design
.
Door
casements
are
fluted
and have
rosettes
in the
corners
.
