The
general
outline
of the
church
and
spire
suggest
the
New
England
colonial
church
,
although
most
of the
work
is
c
.
1858
. The
detail
is
heavy
,
cornices
have
large
mouldings
and
heavy
brackets
. The
walls
are
clapboarded
.
Interior
The
nave
is
four
bays
in
length
with the
chancel
to the
north
. The
chancel
has an
octagonal
termination
, with
well-designed
altar
and
reredos
of
recent
date
.
Side
galleries
.
Columns
supporting
the
galleries
continue
above
gallery
rail
and
terminate
in an
arcade
.
History
The
land
was
purchased
for
$60.00
.
Work
on the
interior
was
delayed
due
to
lack
of
funds
and
slab
benches
were
used
for
seats
. The
first
Rector
was
Rev
.
Mansfield
of
Derby
. In
1827
, a
bell
costing
$257.00
and a
stove
were
installed
;
pews
were
put
in in
1829
, and an
organ
added
in
1831
. The
name
was
changed
from the
Union
to
Trinity
at
Easter
1856
. In
1857
,
$5,000.00
was
expended
for
remodeling
purposes
. A
new
chancel
was
added
and the
interior
decorated
in
1891
;
window
above
the
reredos
and a
new
channcel
organ
. In
1893
the
oak
pulpit
was
donated
.
